On an unassuming Friday in September, the historic Fox Theater played host to the incredibly talented, multi-faceted, singer-guitarist extraordinaire, Mk.gee. The beautiful acoustics of the venue was second only to the grandiose art-deco style surroundings that made it such an unforgettable listening experience. Something out of a movie.
A low, gradual build-up was met with the cheers of a sold-out crowd when Mk.gee took the stage along with support from guitarist Andrew Aged and drummer Zach Sekoff. The cinematic motif carried on throughout the night with the methodical ebb-and-flow of risers, falls, and sweeps. Records like “You got it” and “Dream police” captured the essence of a never-ending rollercoaster of emotions.
On a dimly-lit stage, Mk.gee meticulously weaved in and out of the spotlight, creating a silhouette of himself which appeared larger-than-life. It was as if the appearance of oneself was strictly secondary to his focus on musical artistry. Yet despite his dark and mysterious persona, Mk.gee easily commanded the room with his charisma and on-stage presence which could only be described as ethereal.
